Staff Biography
My name is Mai (pronounced “my”… weird eh?) I was pulled outta my mom in Las Vegas. (And yes, literally pulled…) Been living here all my life, and as cool as Las Vegas sounds, it’s not fun living there. Actually it totally sucks to live here. I grew up a loner, I was the really quiet girl who sat alone during lunch at school and who preps picked on. Grandparents (from both sides) and aunties (from mom’s side) didn’t really except me because I am a mix of two completely different races. (German and Vietnamese, think of it as mixing black and white between racist families, not pretty is it?) Pathetic eh? Well, that’s when my daydreams and drawing were born, having nothing to do and all (unless my friend from cali came) I drew pictures of people that I would watch, or just of things I would look at, which was mostly plants, birds, and animals.

By third grade the “boyness” in me came out, I was the only girl who played kickball with all the other guys, still had no friends, but that changed in the beginning of fifth grade. That’s when a met Caylee, a tomboy just like me. After her there were two other boys, Griffen and Keenan, that we hung out with and that’s when my anime obsession started. At the time pocket monsters (aka pok’emon) had hit the charts. Griffen was a good artist, so all of us followed him in drawing. We drew callenders, cards, and pictures all on pok’emon. We also collected cards like every other kid did.

By this time I had also become really close with my neighbors, Sasha, Colten, and Cutter. I can’t remember if there the ones that really started me on pok’emon, but they did start the real anime obsession: Dragon Ball Z. After that, I remember sitting over at their house watching anime, like Lodoss War, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, etc. Angel Sanctuary was next to blow me away, I was so into it, I even pierced my ear to match the character Setsuna. Finally I had learned bout all different kinds of anime, I watched and read as much as I could I was so obsessed. I’d go to the bookstore and sit on the floor with at least ten mangas stacked next to me reading for a few hours. I would borrow anime from all of my friends including Colton, Cutter, and Joe. Berserk, Saiyuki, Soul to Seoul, Gravitation, Fake, Samurai Deeper Kyo, anything I could get my hands on. It just filled my imagination, gave me new ideas, things to daydream about. And when I ran out of things to borrow and no new mangas had come out, I was hooked on fanfiction.I love action (usually bloody), comedy, and yaoi. (Okay… I’m not a pervert, it’s just that the girl boy pairing manga’s are so mushy and boring with romance, it makes me sick, but at least the yaoi has humor and comedy. It’s not super mushy and to me it seems more normal than the girl boy pairing mangas.)

So what am I doing now with anime? I still am obsessed, but I’m starting to loose time. When I can, I still sit in the bookstore with the stack of mangas looking like a dork, I still borrow as much anime as I can, at every inspiration I draw (which isn’t often), I still daydream with anime, and I still get ideas from anime. It really is imagination, and it has helped me open my mind.

Okay I’m done… any questions?
