My first impression on Eureka 7 is this is a fun little show. It holds the elements of a great series: action packed with light-hearted cynicism and stunning animation. It debuted April 17, 2005 on the TBS network in Tokyo and is already being called one of the highlights of the new season. It revolves around a fourteen year old boy named Renton. His father was a hot-shot wind bender and by proxy, he's become somewhat of a walking sideshow. Failing to live up to his father's great potential, Renton is a self-loathing outcast who idolizes a wind surfing renegade named Holland. With posters of his idol on his walls and a replica board freshly buffed underneath his arm, Renton tries desperately to become as respected as both his father and his idol, Holland.

The show is being co-produced by Bandai Entertainment while Bones will serve as the creative end of the production. The show features mechanical design by Escaflowne creator, Shoji Kawamori. Tomoki Kyoda, who directed RahXephon is also directing Eureka 7. The show will run for fifty episodes and is planned on being released in North America by Bandai.

I'm a big fan of subtitles, but I found it hard to keep up with the speed of the subtitles. That could be attributed to the fan subbing on this particular edition. What I did like was the slow introduction to the show's premise. Just from watching the first episode, you know the main character is going to do a lot of maturing and that all the lives of the oblique main characters will some how intertwine.

Pros: Interesting characters, beautiful animation, creative and original premise.

Cons: Too Soon to tell.
