| Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Historical, Shounen, Supernatural This anime rocked my socks, to borrow a phrase from a friend. Absolutely hilarious funny stuff. The writing on this is insanely random, which makes it so interesting. Alright so I’ll try to explain. We begin by seeing a young boy in asleep in his bed, then watch him spaz out when he wakes up to find a strange green haired girl in his bed, who incidentally is made of wood, and possesses a magical spirit. Tell me that wouldn’t grab your attention right when you woke up. The boy, Cacao, and our wooden friend, Hinano, soon learn that she was conjured up into existence from her realm into a marionette doll by Cacao’s friend and professor. He happens to be a professor of sorcery. Cacao’s school is by far the best I’ve ever seen by the way. The home economics teacher is a Frankenstein looking monster who’s like a thousand years old, and it’s a she-Frankenstein thing so “it” has weird moments of being completely girly and others where she’ll tear you apart. Greatness. There also happens to be a vampyre professor of sorts as well who of course, hates daylight, and has the unfortunate luck of being woken up in the middle of his naps in his coffin. Cacao also lives in a candy shop and its run by a small little robot…thing. There are tiny little people smaller than blades of grass living at his school, and also a boy who seemingly conjures up tornados that enters the story. Cacao and tornado boy have a serious issue with always being hungry too. Another major character is the rival of Cacao for Hinano’s attention. A rich heir to a conglomerate business place (I’m not really sure what they do, they do a little of everything). He is sent to Cacao’s school to infiltrate it, and sort of enslave them to do their bidding, yeah. But he gets entranced by Hinano and vies for her affection, he is frequently flying around in his harrier jet. There’s two other people worth mentioning, as you will see a lot of them. It’s a couple who are hopelessly, and sometimes irritatingly, in love with each other. You know the whole “I love you - I love you too” scene where waves crash up behind the couple? Well that actually happens in this anime, more than a couple times. But you move past the annoyances and eventually come to like them. Overall, I highly recommend this one to make you smile, or at least give you a confused look on your face. Oh there’s also an underwater alien ship beneath the lake that has a machine that makes super creatures by mixing one animal with another, thus there happens to be a talking turtle who’s like 65 million years old. Oh it could happen. Later days. -Kyo- |
