Review* Angel Sanctuary
by Zachary Hardison (Kyo)
Genre: Action, Fantasy

Angel Sanctuary was originally a Manga, but in 2000 a compilation of 3 episodes was published and contained the first few issues of the Manga. The storyline immediately grabs your attention as God is dead, and the end of everything, everywhere, is coming unless the fallen Angel Alexiel can awaken and stop it. Years ago in the war between Heaven and Hell, Angels were killing each other and innocents that got in the way. Alexiel stood up against this and opposed God. For her crime, she was sealed in a crystal and to be reincarnated time and time again into a person that is outcast and exiled from society, only to die a violent, young death. This time, the inhabitant is a teenage boy named Setsuna Mudou who is in love with his sister, Sara Mudou. The two are separated by their mother because she knows of Setsuna's love for her, but Sara still insists on keeping in touch.

Another major character is Setsuna's close and possibly only friend, Kira Sakuya. Kira is in actuality the incarnate Seven-Bladed Sword made immortal by angel blood splattering on him during the angel wars. Kira is also to follow the spirit of Alexiel as the Seven-Bladed Sword was bound to Alexiel.

Rosiel is Alexiel's twin brother, who despises Alexiel because she was more favored than him in Heaven. He tries to awaken Alexiel in Setsuna to eventually kill her. There is also a realm of demons, and two in particular trying to awaken Alexiel, but for her help in the coming war. After all of this, Setsuna doesn't care about any of it, but only about his love for his sister. Without ruining anymore of the storyline, let's just say that this anime is worth seeing. A storyline that keeps you wanting to know what happens next, with more surprises coming, I highly recommend it.

*The story ends at a cliffhanger, but unfortunately there were no more published films to continue the story. However, you can still get the continuing story which includes an even more interesting sequence of events in manga form.*
