Well this one is a different genre than I usually review but worth watching just because it rocks. Similar style set as the Rurouni Kenshin series, so if you liked that, you'll like this one as well. We start out in the year 1604 recently after the great civil war at Sekigahara. Yuya Shiina is currently making a living as a bounty hunter who weilds a unique three round revolver. Her big aim is to capture the most wanted man in Japan who's name is Onime-no-Kyo. Kyo being the demon eyes who is wanted for killing one thousand men. Yuya runs into a traveling medicine seller by the name of Mibu Kyoshiro who she mistakes for Kyo, but soon realizes he is just a weakling guy. Suddenly they are attacked by a giant demon snake like tentacled, thing. I don't know its just a big monster that's bad. Kyoshiro is at one point cornered and unexpectedly says, “Here he comes.” Wee! Kyo the demon eyes is standing there all of a sudden. He gets his name because Kyo’s eyes are a dark red. So we have Kyoshiro and Kyo sharing one body?! In a word, yes.

At this point, everyone’s wondering what is going on, and then no one tells
us right away as usual, we have to watch. So Yuya and Kyo/Kyoshiro are traveling to Edo for undisclosed purposes on Kyo’s behalf. We gradually learn more about Kyo and Yuya and their backgrounds. Excellent character display all around.

There are plenty of add-in characters along the way so I’ll only mention a few. Benitora we first meet as a member of a group of skilled assassin’s trying to kill Yuya and Kyo. Through a weird series of events he joins up with Kyo and Yuya. He also has a few secrets about his real identity as well that you find out as the story progresses.

Sanada Yukimura is a favorite of mine in this anime. He’s just insanely calm throughout everything and always has kind of a smug smirk on his face. He his heir to the famed Sanada clan and is rightfully so because of his combat ability. He joins up with Kyo and the others when its in his interest to intervene but is always keeping an eye on them from not too far away. As I said, there are plenty of other characters, but it would spoil the story to tell any more…okay a little more. There’s a famous line of sword smiths who are amazing at creating weapons, but outdo themselves by creating one weapon in their lives that is above all the rest. Unfortunately, the line ended with only 7 generations. The Muramsa’s created 7 weapons of incredible power Kyo/Kyoshiro possesses a true Muramsa sword. We eventually meet all seven weapons and the seven people who wield them, and their freaking sweet by the way. This ties into the storyline quite well also.

So there’s evil presences, emperor’s and heirs to be overthrown, legendary weapons and warriors, and crazy entrancing storyline wrapped into this anime. Totally worth watching. The ending is pretty crazy-good as well, but its very hard to explain without spoiling it and I have a personal vendetta against spoilers and their evil so I won’t go into it, but I will say that it doesn’t suck J Later days secret closet ninja anime fans.
