Manga Genius: Nobuhiro Watsukiby Lesaruss Nobuhiro Watsuki was born on May 26, 1970 in Tokyo, Japan. At an early age, Watsuki took up drawing Manga after he saw his brother's artwork. He was also influenced by Manga artist like Fujiko Fujio (Doraemon) and Mitsuru Adachi (Touch). He would later go on to create one of the greatest samurai characters of all time, but before he could etch the first line, he decided to take up Kempo. He quickly quit after admitting to being too weak. This would not detour him from mastering another dream. While he was a freshman, he published his first Manga in Shonen Jump. He would go on to win the annual Pop Step Award held by the magazine to find new talent. After finishing school, Watsuki went to work as an assistant for Takashi Obata (Yu Yu Hakusho, Cypher). It wasn't until 1994 that Nobuhiro would create his most famous work to date. He created a Manga that acted as a prelude to the Kenshin series. Besides drawing, Watsuki loves to read, watch Anime, and listen to music. He enjoys reading American comics. Some of his favorites include, X-Men and Spider-man. Other than the Kenshin series, he enjoys watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and Kodomo no Omocha (Child's Toy). It's interesting to know that his favorite Manga is One Piece. He enjoys the adventures and pirates. As far as his creation is concerned, his favorite hero is Yahiko Myojin. He appreciates his determination to be a great samurai, much like his late father. His favorite villain is Shishio because Mr. Watsuki got to use all the evil parts of his mind. However, a stand out favorite of the entire series is the Shinsingumi. He even plans on creating a new Manga based on this group of Menji era assassins |
